FAQ’s

What should I bring to class?

Please bring a mat & if you use your own props (bricks/straps etc) you are welcome to bring them along too. Hydrate well before class as it is not that comfortable to move with a belly full of water.

Should I eat before yoga/pilates?

It’s generally advised to eat no later than an hour before a yoga or pilates class, but a small snack would be okay. Please hydrate well before and after class. It is generally best not to drink during class but listen to your body.

What should I eat after a yoga/pilates class?

Definitely drink lots of water after a practice! Eat well within 60 to 90 mins of the class finish.

What happens in an osteo class?

We use chairs to support us as we move through a mix of resistance training, yoga and pilates. It’s a great strength and conditioning class for anyone wanting to get stronger in a safe way.

Is chair yoga just for older people?

Absolutely not! If you’re working through an injury, or have limited mobility this is the class for you! Regardless of age, it’s great for everyone, especially those glued to their desks during the workday.

What is a sound bath?

Not something you want to bring your togs to! A sound bath is a meditative experience where those in attendance are “bathed” in sound waves. The practitioner will use instruments such as crystal bowls, gongs, chimes and rain sticks to bring you into a relaxed state. A sound bath is based on the idea that we are all responding to frequencies around us. A sound bath seeks to promote harmony in the body through sound waves.

Why practice breathing exercises?

Your breath is your inspiration! Pranayama means ‘lifeforce extension’ and are the breathing practices of yoga. Sinead has trained with Patrick McKeown of the Oxygen Advantage and Buteyko breathing school. Breathwork can be stimulating or relaxing.

The basic idea of breathwork is to release toxins and stress when you breathe out and nourish your body when you breathe in. We will always start a yoga class with breathwork to release anything that’s happened before you arrived and to settle you into your class.

What are the benefits of pilates?

Pilates can…

  • improve balance and body awareness.
  • reduce stress and boost your mood, energy and motivation.
  • reduce injury risk by using strength-building exercises to increase the support and stability of your joints as they move.
  • ease lower back pain.

What can I expect from a yoga class?

The teacher will begin with some breathwork and maybe a meditation. You will move through a gentle warm up, before moving into sun salutations, a standing sequence, seated sequence, before laying down on the ground. A yoga class will always end with savasana (relaxation) to soak up the benefits of the practice. At the end you will be invited to sit up, maybe joining in with an ‘Om’ and ‘Namaste’.

Do I need to be fit for a yoga/pilates/osteo class?

Absolutely not! All our classes are suitable for any level of fitness. The teacher will always offer options/modifications, so remember to listen to your own body!

Do I need to be flexible for yoga?

Definitely not! One of the benefits of a regular yoga practice is improving your flexibility. So wherever you are in terms of flexibility is a great starting point.

How often should I practice yoga or pilates?

Consistency is key! Starting with 1-2 times a week is great, and you can gradually increase as your body gets used to the practice. The frequency depends on your personal goals and schedule, but even a single session can make a difference.

Can I attend if I have an injury?

Yes, but we recommend consulting with your doctor first. Let your instructor know about any injuries before class so they can offer modifications to keep you safe and comfortable.

What should I wear to class?

Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows you to move freely. Avoid overly loose clothing to allow the instructor to check your alignment. For most classes, bare feet are recommended, but socks can be worn if you feel more comfortable.

Are classes suitable for beginners?

Absolutely! Our classes cater to all levels, and instructors will provide modifications for beginners and more advanced students. We also offer regular beginners yoga and pilates classes.

Do I need any prior experience to join a class?

Not at all! Our classes are designed to be accessible for everyone, regardless of experience level.

What is the difference between yoga and pilates?

While both practices focus on body awareness, yoga is more about flexibility, relaxation, and connecting breath to movement, while pilates emphasises core strength, stability, and muscle toning.

What are the benefits of chair yoga?

Chair yoga is fantastic for improving flexibility, strength, and circulation. It’s especially useful for those with limited mobility or anyone looking for a gentle, supportive form of exercise.

How does Osteo Fit differ from regular fitness classes?

Osteo Fit is specifically designed for bone health and low-impact strength-building. It’s perfect for those looking to strengthen their bones, joints, and muscles in a safe, supported way.

What should I expect from my first class?

You’ll be guided step-by-step through the practice. Don’t worry about “getting it right”—the focus is on listening to your body and finding your pace. The instructor will offer support and modifications throughout.

What is mindfulness, and how is it used in class?

Mindfulness is about being fully present and aware of your thoughts, sensations, and surroundings. In class, mindfulness helps you stay connected with your body and breath, enhancing the benefits of the practice.

What if I feel self-conscious in class?

It’s natural to feel that way at first, but remember that everyone’s there to focus on their own journey. Your instructor and classmates are there to support you, so try to focus on your personal progress.

Can yoga or pilates help with stress relief?

Definitely! Both practices encourage relaxation, deepen your breathing, and improve body awareness, which can all help reduce stress.

How do I know if I’m making progress?

Progress isn’t just about flexibility or strength—it’s also about feeling more at ease in your body, managing stress better, and enjoying the practice itself.

Is there an age limit for any of the classes?

No, there’s no age limit! All classes are designed to be inclusive, with modifications available for different abilities and ages.

Do I need any special equipment?

For most classes, a mat and some water are enough. If you need additional props, we’ll let you know before the class, but all necessary equipment is usually provided.

What should I do if I feel dizzy or uncomfortable during class?

Always listen to your body and take breaks as needed. You can rest in a comfortable seated position or child’s pose at any time. Don’t hesitate to communicate with the instructor for support.
